“Aslan is Coming! Jesus is Coming!” Christmas Eve Service December 24, 2019 based on Luke 2:1-18 York Pines United Church

Luke 2 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) Everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.   There were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. Micah:  But you, O Bethlehem of Ephrathah, who are one of the little clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me   one who is to rule in Israel whose origin is from of old,   from ancient days.   Therefore he shall give them up until the time   when she who is in labor has brought forth;  then the rest of his kindred shall return   to the people of Israel.   And he shall stand and feed his flock in the strength of God,   in the majesty of the name of God. Isaiah 11:1-10 A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. The spirit of God shall rest on him,   the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might,   the spirit of knowledge and the awe of God.   His delight shall be in awe of God. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide by what his ears hear; but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,   and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.   Righteousness shall be the belt around his waist,   and faithfulness the belt around his loins. The wolf shall live with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the lion and the fatling together,   and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze, their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall p
